On Sunday September 4th while cycling alone near Blue Mountain in Collingwood Ontario, Tracy suffered a life-changing complete C3/C4 spinal cord injury. She had been training for The Centurion Canada road race. Tracy was flown by air-ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto where she spent almost two months in critical and intensive care. She was recently moved to The Lyndhurst Centre of Toronto Rehab to begin her new life as a quadriplegic.
As a quadriplegic, Tracy’s ongoing care will be complex and extremely expensive. We’ve established a Trust Account to support Tracy and her 3 young boys. Donations can be made at any CIBC branch in Canada. Just tell them you’d like to donate to Joan Dort in Trust Account for Tracy Dort-Kyne and give them this account #00002 / 60-47599. An independent board will oversee the Trust.
Tracy was on the front page of The Globe and Mail for a major story about the 1,500 Canadians that suffer catastrophic injuries each year. It’s an important read for every Canadian who will be shocked to find that medicare largely stops at the hospital door — leaving families to cope with millions in home-care costs.
